(PAST) Down Syndrome Association of Guam (DSAG) To Hold Family & Friends Walk & Wave on October 24, 2015

In commemoration of Down Syndrome Awareness month, the Down Syndrome Association of Guam will be celebrating a Friends & Family Walk & Wave on October 24th, 2014 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the ITC intersection, Tamuning. Following the Wave, we will have a potluck picnic at the adjacent Tamuning municipal park and we ask all who wish to come to bring a favorite or special dish to share with the community. The goal of this event is to encourage families and friends of individuals with Down Syndrome to congregate and socialize. Fun and games will be provided.

DSAG strives to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Since 2001, the association has been established to offer support and help others fully understand the condition and its impact upon individual lives. The association also continuously provides educational and recreational activities for children and adults with Down syndrome.

People with Down syndrome are living longer than before. The life expectancy of individuals with Down syndrome has increased from age 25 in 1983 to age 60 at present. It is the most common genetic condition with one in every 350 live births in women over 35. Down syndrome is the most commonly occurring chromosomal condition. Today, Down syndrome affects more than 400,000 people in the United States. On Guam, though the numbers are not as high, we are almost assured that the statistics (per capita) reflect the same.

The Down Syndrome Association of Guam would like to extend an invitation to the people of Guam join us at this very special event and volunteer your services to help promote our association.
